Sixth NCAA Approved Basketball Tryouts Held in Istanbul
NCAA Approved Basketball Draft 2018, which gives basketball players between the ages of 4 and 21 the opportunity to receive sports scholarships from high schools and universities in the USA, was held on April 28-29.
Dozens of young basketball players from many different cities of the country participated in the sixth draft organized by UBA International, the only institution in Turkey that organizes the draft with the official approval of the NCAA. At the Istanbul Showcase hosted by FMV Işık Schools Erenköy Campus, participants had the opportunity to showcase their talents in the matches played over two days, and there were also participants from abroad from Serbia and the Netherlands.
FOLLOWED BY EXPERIENCED DOMESTIC AND FOREIGN COACHES
Video recordings of the matches played at Istanbul Showcase 2018 were taken so that high school and university officials in America could watch them. There were also experienced coaches who preferred to watch the tryouts on site.
Turkish Basketball Super League coach İsmail Beleş, Zafer Kalaycıoğlu, who won many trophies in Turkey and Europe with Fenerbahçe, whom he coached for 7 years, and Near East University women's basketball teams, where he currently works, BSL and TBL coach Cengiz Karadağ, Fehmi Sadıkoğlu, one of the leading names of Turkish basketball, Bahçeşehir College Basketball Infrastructure Officer Tufan Sabah, Demir İnşaat Büyükçekmece Basketball Infrastructure Coordinator Cengiz Altınbalık, Infrastructure National Team Coach Hüseyin Cafoğlu, Caan Spor General Coordinator and coach Şafak Aydıner, talent scouts such as Marko Rajovic from Montenegro, Daniele Aniello from Italy and Peja Stankovic from Serbia also followed the auditions on-site.
DENİZ KILIÇLI SHARED HIS NCAA EXPERIENCES
Another important visitor of Istanbul Showcase 2018 was professional basketball player Deniz Kılıçlı. Deniz Kılıçlı, who is the first Turkish player to play in the NCAA Final Four in his college career and plays for Demir İnşaat Büyükçekmece, one of the Turkish Basketball Super League teams, shared his experiences and gave advice to the participants of Istanbul Showcase 2018.
